Primary Filtration - More Loading w/ Less Footprint

June 7, 2021

Increased solids loading to your wastewater plant?  No room, no money for construction and no time to waste trying to put in a primary clarifier?

The answer is simple…Discfilter.

This solution has been in use in wastewater treatment plants for years but in a different location. Filtration has primarily been at the back end of wastewater treatment plants in a tertiary manner using 10 micron filter media. Using the same technology but in a new location doing the same job can make all the difference.

The Discfilter operates by water flowing into its center drum and out to the filter media that are attached to the drum. The filter media collect the solids and the filtered water passes through and flows down stream out the back of the unit.  Solids that are collected on the filter media are then backwashed off the media during a backwash cycle and fresh media is put into operation.

Using the Discfilter to capture solids in the very same way can help your plant expand without taking up a large area like a clarifier would.  With an increased micron sized (up to 500 micron) filter panel the Kruger Discfilter can reduce the influent loading by upwards of 50% or more.  The footprint of the Discfilter is about 8’wx8’t and the length is determined by the design flow and load.  Even if the Discfilter is 20’ long it is still smaller than any primary clarifier. While keeping construction costs low the Discfilter come preassembled and sit on a concrete pad ready for operation on day one reducing construction time and money.

Not every problem has the same solution and thinking outside the box can save time and money and give the Waste Water Treatment plant new flexability without major construction and downtime.  Kruger is always willing to pilot to prove their capabilities with the Discfilter but have thousands of worldwide installations that prove it experiences.
